Aaron Marks Sound Design Demo (1:35)This quick sound design demo showcases aircraft, vehicle and weapon field recordings we have conducted as well as our sound design and mixing capabilities. We recorded vehicle sounds specifically for the referenced game but for demonstration purposes, all audio was replaced and recreated for this trailer. We did not do the original trailer audio and the visual content displayed here belongs soley to Codemasters.

OYM on location - Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising (5:28 - 20 mb - wmv)This video highlights a field recording trip we made to the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in 29 Palms, CA to record M1A1 Abrams Tanks, Amphibious Assault vehicles, Light Armored Vehicles, Humvee's and trucks for Codemasters Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. There's no way to give it any justice in writing - you just have to watch!

Growing up, I'd always wanted to compose for a television series and this project got me pretty darned close! These examples are from a video game based on an 80's TV cop show with a little bit of latin flavor. Myself and OYM staff composer Jon Jones had a serious blast working on these!

I, of the Enemy Montage (2:25 - 3.44 mb - mp3)
This is an example of 'in game' music from the space strategy game I, of the Enemy. This particular music is designed to set a somewhat eerie and uncomfortable atmosphere while driving the game forward with its beat. Because it sits in the background and shares the soundscape with sound effects and dialog, it is simple but textured enough to not sound too plain. The first time I actually heard it in the game was quite a treat.

How about a cartoon with a 70's 'kung fu' rock soundtrack? Here's an audition we did for a Nickelodeon series. The producers liked the music but the gig, unfortunately, remains elusive. Staff composer Jon Jones and I wrote and recorded this piece in a mere 7 hours. We're chomping at the bit for our next chance indeed!

Several people have made mention of some similarities with the game Halo but the strange thing is, I wrote this before I had ever heard the game.

A subculture exists for the Dreamcast game system and I had the chance to create music for this surprisingly still viable platform. This track is from the dance game Feet of Fury created by the talented folks at Cryptic Allusion.

This example was originally written as a speculative demo for a side scrolling shoot ‘em up and eventually found its way into a space strategy game where it has served as a placeholder for more than 5 years! While it won’t make it into the final version of the game, the developer has told me that after listening to it this long, they have yet to grow tired of it and will surely miss it when it’s gone. Hmm, how do ya like them apples? (Update - the developer came to his senses and decided to keep it afterall. Look for this as the menu cue for I, of the Enemy at a store near you!)

These menu cues were created for Konami’s PlayStation 2, MSL Extra Time release. This bit of music was recorded using the 2mb sound bank allotment of the PS2 platform I had also created for the game. I always feel awkward playing guitar on the keyboard but still love that sound!

I hadn’t had the pleasure to work on this type of project and wrote this piece to satisfy that urge. I’ve had several requests for music like this since putting this on my demo. This track eventually found its way into the game Feet of Fury.the Dreamcast.

We often jokingly refer to Jon as 'the man of a thousand voices' but after creating this montage from his previous voice work, we stopped laughing and started taking this guy seriously. It was amazing to hear these characters back to back and I think you'll be equally as surprised as we were.
